About USD banknotes in Bali

The US dollar is the foreign currency Bali's money changers quote most often, and the one most visitors arrive holding. It is not legal tender here — shops, warungs and villa owners price in Rupiah — so dollars in Bali are a store of value and a travel reserve rather than spending money. That is exactly what they are useful for: an onward flight, a deposit quoted in dollars, or a reserve to carry out of the country. What USD denominations do you hand over?
Only 100-unit USD notes are stocked. The handover is rounded down to a whole note, so a request that falls between two notes is quoted at the lower one.
What is the smallest USD cash order?
The bar is USD 250 on the swap leg, the same one a Rupiah cash pickup clears. In USD notes that lands on the next whole 100-unit note above it, and because the figure moves with the rates this page prints today's rather than a number written down last month.
